30th Anniversary, Paint Your Pet & Make This!

Three posts in one!

On March 30, we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary! Yay us!
Friends Tom and Katie were in town. The four of us ate at El Gaucho.
So much food, so much fun!
Fun fact: the four of us are WSU love stories! GO COUGS!

Chocolate crème brulee and bananas foster for dessert

Tom & Katie brought us a beautiful bouquet for our anniversary.

We extended the visit to brunch the next day. The weather was so nice, we spent the entire day outside.

Naseem stopped by for a quick visit between trips. We had always wanted to go to a Paint your Pet night at The Loaded Brush. Lucky for us, one was happening during her visit.
It was worth every penny and did not disappoint.

You just email photos of your pets, they are pre-sketched and you do the rest.
Sweet Pea!

Look at that face! #Remykins

I really didn't want to paint over the sketch, as I thought it was perfect with just this green background.

The instructors did a great job of capturing Remy's personality.

Artist hard at work!

I asked for help (several times).
The instructor, Nathan, was awesome! He really encouraged us to try our best
and stepped in when asked and fixed mistakes.

We loved this class so much, we will definitely do it again!!!!

Nas and I always bake something when she visits. Omid and I are trying to cut down on sweets. I decided we should try to make arepas for breakfast.  They were super easy! We followed the recipe on The Minimalist Baker's website.  I found the arepas flour at Walmart. We doubled the recipe so Matty could have some to take home (they are not only gluten free, but Vegan too).

Just mix warm water, corn flour and salt.  The dough should resemble sugar cookie dough. The dough has to rest for 5 minutes. Pat out into desired sizes.

After pan frying for 3 minutes per side, bake the arepas for 15 minutes (to cook the insides).
We made arepas benedicts. Arepas, pulled pork, avocado, poached egg, lime-cumin crema sauce. They were not only delicious, but so filling too! Make them! You won't be disappointed!

Happy Anniversary!!!!

Omid and I are celebrating 25 years of marriage today. Happy anniversary to us!

25 years ago today, we borrowed a friends car, drove the 8 miles to Moscow, Idaho, applied for a marriage license and got married a few minutes later.

It's been 25 years of fun adventures and I can't wait to see what the next 25 years hold for us.

Out & About

On Saturday, Omid's parents celebrated thier 42nd wedding anniversary. On Sunday night, we all went out to dinner to celebrate. We started out at Jake's Grill in Portland.

Personalized menus

The happy couple.
After dinner, we ventured over to 23rd & waited for our table at Papa Haydn.

Omid & the kids found these pigs.
Banana cream pie for Omid.

Chocolate cubes for Nas & Matty.

Panna cotta with raspberries for me. I always order this. Once, I ordered something else & was immdiately disappointed. I hope Papa Haydn never takes this off thier menu. It's worth every calorie!
Raspberry gateau for Fari & Mansour.

Happy Anniversary to us!

Tomorrow is our 19th anniversary! This photo was taken in July of 1989 (down at Wawawaii on the Snake River). I don't have any photos of March 30, 1989. We were so poor, we didn't even have a camera to take a photo. Here are some random facts about that day:

* We eloped!

*Omid & I drove across the border into Idaho to get married (no 3 day waiting period after applying for a marriage license). We did wait until our a.m. classes were over. I think Omid had a test in his Thermal Dynamics class he couldn't miss.

*We had to borrow a car for the occasion.

* We asked several friends to be our witnesses at the courthouse. Everyone thought we were just joking around and not serious. They weren't going to cut class for a joke. The court clerk was our witness.

*After getting married, we drove back into Pullman. We met up with some friends and showed them the marriage license to "prove" we were actually married! They felt bad.

*We had a big party that night with Omid 'bbqing' for everyone.

*The only person we told for 6 months was my sister Brenda (a freshman in HS at the time).
Here is her school photo from that time. Sorry B!

We decided to tell our families after 6 months, as Omid's parents decided to hop over for a visit. My parents were ecstatic (they loved Omid!). Omid's parents had never met me, so they weren't sure what to expect. Omid thought they would think he married someone like Lucy from Dallas. Here is a photo taken the same night I met Omid's parents for the first time. Look at my nervous face!

Omid's cousin, Kevin (a WSU Vet student at the time), drove Fari & Mansour to Pullman. He was sworn to secrecy - not to let us know they were in town. So while Omid's parents knew we were married, we had no idea they were in Pullman to see us.

Photo of cousin Kevin & his wife Patti.

A year and a half later, my parents threw us a big reception at the Westin Hotel in Seattle (the next time Omid's parents visited). That is OJ on the tables. I wanted wine & champagne served, but my parents didn't want to offend the many religious people attending the reception. So, we had an OJ toast.
