Method Contest Update

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I won a People Against Dirty online contest to give away 200 Method Smarty Dish dishwashing tabs. Read about that here. The samples arrived & I had to decide which of the three offices in the district that I work at would be the lucky recipient. I finally decided on the elementary school & the Special Services office. Two hundred Smarty Dish samples.

The best part of the sample = $1.00 off any Method product!

Anna at Method also sent me this cute t-shirt.
The leaves on the tree are all Method soap bottles.

I made this sign on Scrapblog.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't print at home so I tried to print it on the color printer at school. It wouldn't work there either. I finally just printed it in black & white. It wasn't as cute as the color version, but it got the point across: free!

Staff lounge at school with my B&W sign.

Most of the samples were snatched up before the first recess. I went back after lunch to check on the progress. There were about 25 left so I decided to take those to the Special Services office. Several people told me they already like the Method hand soap & granite spray and were excited to try the Smarty Dish.

I hope everyone liked (loved!) their free samples!
Once again I have to give Method a shout-out & say how much I love their products!
I only wish they were located in Portland so I could work for them.
Thank you for the free samples Method!!

Tips!

Here are some good household tips. One I need, the other I hope & pray I will never need!

Fruit flies! Ugh - they are worse in the summer, but I still seem to always have one or two that come in the house on my purchased fruit. Not Martha has this great tip I will try. I have tried sugar water & apple cider vinegar in the past, but it didn't really work that well. This tip looks like a sure thing.

SKUNK! I haven't seen any in our area, but have smelled them from time to time. I hope Remy never finds one! I've always heard tomato juice does the trick, but apparently that just masks the smell. Mythbusters tv tried out this formula & it seems to work well. I am definitely going to remember this (just in case!).

The last tip is from the Duggars (thanks for the reminder, Sarah!). Michelle Duggar uses white vinegar every once in a while in place of fabric softener. The vinegar cleans the machine hoses. I have tried this several times and the clothes come out smelling great, not vinegary at all.

Green Clean Fun!

This past July, I purchased my first Method brand cleaning product: almond scented wood floor cleaner. I loved it so much, I mopped my floors every other day. I am not lying when I say cleaning is a joy with these products. Not only are you doing good for the earth, but the scents are so uplifting, I WANT to clean. How's that for a product plug? I slowly got rid of all my Costco sized containers of eco-unfriendly cleaners & replaced those with Method products. I even joined Method's People Against Dirty & have entered a few contests. And....guess what? I won one! It was supposed to be for their laundry detergent (he friendly!), but they ran out of those (darn it!). So instead, Method is sendng me 200 free samples of their Smarty Dish automatic dishwater cleaning tabs to give away to my coworkers. I am hooked on these products!
Here are my favorite Method products so far (from L to R): Ylang Ylang Daily Shower Cleaner (wow!), Almond scented Floor Cleaner, Daily Granite Spray, Almond scented Wood Cleaner, & Lil Bowl Blu toilet cleaner (how cute a name is that!?). It's eucalyptus/mint scent, but I think it smells like sage.

Fun Craft!

I saw these giant tissue paper pom poms on the Color Me Katie blog. They were so cute I decided to make a few & hang them in Nas' room. I made 6 in under an hour. This product costs less than $10 too!
Click on this link to Martha Stewart for step by step instructions. Remy modeling the finished poms.

Raclette Party

Last night, I got together with some good friends for a raclette party. Raclette is a type of cheese from Switzerland. It is prepared with vegetables on a special raclette grill. The grill heats numerous small pans in which each guest melts the raclette with vegetables, pickles, olives, etc.

I had never heard of raclette cheese or grills before. Both Jenny & Arnita have one. Then, last week, Omid and I were watching Burt Wolf's Travels. Burt traveled to Switzerland and the entire hour long show was about raclette & how to eat it. It looked delicious, so I emailed a bunch of friends and we decided to have a party.

Finally sitting down to eat!

Delicious!

Here is a close up of the grill. The cheese is placed into the small pans. There is an element underneath that melts the cheese. The top part is the grill. Arnita brought meat & shrimp to grill on the top. When we ran out of raclette cheese, we used cubes of cheddar & jack. They worked just as well.

This party was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again!

Aebelskivers!

Look what I found at Trader Joe's!
Delicious aebelskiver pancakes! These were delicious and tasted JUST LIKE the ones we used to eat in Pullman at Old European. The TJ's aebelskivers will tide me over until the next time I visit WSU. :)

Remember that delicious tomato butter I made in August? Today I used it as a pizza sauce. It didn't disappoint!

Make This!!

Matty had the great idea of making homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Cups last night. They were super easy to make and tasted out-of-this-world delicious!
PB Filling

I had to explain to Remy that chocolate is bad for him.
He didn't believe me & was begging for a bite. I told him, "Too bad, so sad. Go lie down!"

Finished product

We did a taste test with a real Reese's PBC. The verdict: we loved them both.
Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

1 bag chocolate chips
3 Tbs. vegetable oil
1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 Tbs light Karo syrup

Line either regular or mini muffin tins with paper liners. Combine chocolate chips & oil in a microwaveable bowl. Heat until melted, stir until smooth. Place a bit of melted chocolate into the paper liners. Work the chocolate around the liner with a small spoon. Place in fridge to set. Place the extra chocolate off to the side. In another small bowl, mix peanut butter, powdered sugar & Karo syrup. The mix will be somewhat stiff. Take a tablespoon (or more) sized amound and press it into the set chocolate cups. Pour the reserved chocolate on top of the peanut butter filling. Set in fridge for 30 minutes. Enjoy!
