Half Marathon!

On Sunday, I finished my 4th half marathon!
So hard, but so much fun!!!

I decided that I was going to wear my Coug gear for the race; hence the GO COUGS!

My sister Cynthia & her husband Mike also ran the race. Cynthia had a goal to run the half in 2:07. Guess what! SHE DID IT!

This was my worst race. I was almost 6 minutes slower than last year. Very disappointing. The silver lining: I finished in under 3 hours!☺
Mike finished in 2:12 with an injured hamstring!!!
My goal next year: to beat 2:59!!!
I am already looking forward to May 2013!!!

Fun fact: So many of the race spectators gave me a GO COUGS shout out or had something nice to say about my tshirt/visor. One group even sang the WAZZU fight song! LOVED THAT!!! I also encountered several Husky hecklers (but I kept it classy & let their comments fall flat). ☺

Capitol City Half Marathon

On Sunday, I 'wogged' (walked/jogged) my 3rd half marathon. The weather was absolutely awful. It poured the entire time & the temperature hovered at 49*. I have never been that wet/cold in my life. After the first mile, I was able to wring a bunch of water out my hair and clothes (& I still had 12.1 more miles to go). BUT, I powered through and tried to beat my last time. Unfortunately, I missed it by one minute 30 seconds. So close! I finished in 2:54:14. I blame the rain!!

So glad to be done!

Waiting at the finish line: my family (poor Nas was sick & came anyway), a dry towel & a cream cheese Danish from Wagners. YUM! Thanks B!  My sister Cynthia & her husband Mike RAN the entire half marathon and finished at 2:12 & 2:22. Good job guys!
Next year I will bring my camera (if it's dry!). I'm already looking forward to it!

I wish KEEN & Nike would get together & figure out a way to insert the Nike+ sensor into KEEN Whisper sandals. I LOVE my KEEN's and would have loved to have run the marathon in them. But...I needed to track my mileage and had to wear my Nike's. Maybe someday!

Capital City Half Marathon!

We did it! My sister and I finished our first half marathon yesterday. It was so much fun and I can't wait to do it again next year! My only regret is that I didn't have my camera with me. There were so many things I wanted to take photos of along the way. Next time!

There were 1095 participants registered for the half marathon. 391 males & 704 females. Here are the results for our age group (40-44). Cynthia finished 81/122 participants (pace time of 11:19 per mile) and I finished 96/122 (pace time of 13:11 per mile).

At the starting line.

Before the race. My sister Cynthia & I feeling all piggly-wiggly.

My favorite part of the race = mile 7. That's when I saw my family (& Remy!). Such a good feeling to see people you know cheering you on!

At mile 10, there was one house passing out dixie cups of beer! I grabbed it thinking it was water and spilled most of it on my shirt.

Cheerleaders!!
Cynthia crossing the finish line. She ran the 13.1 in 2:29:22!

While I was still jogging, Cynthia was enjoying her post-race massage.

Jogging up to the finish line. My official time was 2:52:48.

Me crossing the finish line. What a great feeling!

After the race, we went back to my parents' house for a bbq. Omid made flank steak & teriyaki chicken. It was delicious!

My biggest cheerleader! Omid made sure I got my mileage in every week. Love you Omidjoon!

Half Marathon

One month from today....I will be participating in my first half marathon. So exciting! The last time I had anything to do with the CCM was in 1984. My friend Karen and I manned a 'water station' & passed out water to the runners. I got to meet Joan Benoit Samuelson who was in Oly for the Olympic Trials. It was very cool. She went on to win the first women's Olympic Marathon at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles later that year.

Next on my list...Lacamas Lake Run/Walk in July!

Run! Run! Run!

Last night Matty, Omid and I watched a documentary about the Ironman. It was so amazing and inspiring. After that, Omid showed us a video on YouTube about Rick Hoyt, a young man with cerebal palsy who wanted to compete in the Ironman. He and his dad have completed almost 1000 marathons & triathalons in 27 years. Amazing!

This inspired Matty and I to do the Capitol City Marathon this spring. Unfortunately, Matty isn't old enough to enter the marathon portion, so we will be competing in the half marathon. Nas decided to join us, along with my sister, Cynthia. Omid said if we did this, he would take photos and write the blog post. We have six months to get ready & train for our first ever half marathon. So exciting!
