Try This!!

I caught the creeping crud that has been going around the three schools I work at & am home sick today. Since I was going to be home all day, I figured I would try the coconut oil hair treatment that I have seen all over Pinterest.

I used Harvest Bay brand coconut oil that I found at New Seasons ($12.99).
Costco sells another brand of coconut oil as well (in a much bigger size, for a much better price!).

I took a heaping teaspoonful and let it melt in my hands, then rubbed it through my hair. I did this two more times, making sure to get my scalp as well. I let it sit on my hair for a good hour. You can either wrap your head in a towel or not. I chose not to, and my hair looked greasy, stringy & got kind of crispy/crunchy - like I had put too much hair gel in it.

I washed my hair twice (just to make sure I removed all the coconut oil). I conditioned it as well, as my hair has been so dry with the winter weather.  Then I dried & styled my hair like I normally do.

The coconut oil worked GREAT! My hair is silky smooth - just like when I come home from the salon! I plan to use the coconut oil as a deep conditioner once a week.

Try this!!! I bet you won't be able to stop running your hands through your hair!☺

Hair

Pinterest. Have you visited yet? So many great ideas/recipes to pin & then try. I created a new board for myself titled 'hair.' This is where I have pinned different cuts & hair colors I like or may want to try someday. Yesterday was that someday. I marched confidently into the salon & said, "Today, I would like to go darker. It would be nice for my hair to finally match my eyebrows." The stylist said, "Okay, but I will only go one shade darker than your haircolor is now, otherwise it will be too dark." Then I said something like, "Add lots of highlights for contrast & while you are at it, go ahead and cut an inch off the length, just to mix things up!"
I have to say, my stylist did a great job on the cut, color & highlights. Thanks Laurel for sharing your stylist information!!!  I am loving the new color!

Perfect Timing!

Later today I get to visit Miranda. Miranda is my hair stylist. She is a miracle worker. I have needed a cut & color for weeks. With these tough economic times, I have decided to stretch my visits out to 12 weeks instead of the usual 8. Those extra 4 weeks are NOT fun! Not. At. All. :(

I was stressing a little bit because I don't get paid until tomorrow - but my appt is for today. I really didn't want to take the money from savings to pay for the appt - but rationialized that if I had to, I had to (this IS an important appointment, after all).

I got some GREAT news when the mailman arrived. I received two checks from my vision insurance company. Hallelujah & thank the Lord....the company reimbursed me not only for my exam, but for my contacts too! I was hoping for one or the other - but for both - that was wonderful! And the timing: couldn't be more perfect!! Thank you Jesus!

hair conundrum

For the past few months, I have been trying to grow my hair out into this "lob" worn by Gwyneth Paltrow. She looks so adorable. Unfortunately, I don't have the patience to get my hair this length.

I found this style in a magazine and thought it was cute. But...I decided that the next time I get my hair cut (end of June), I will get it cut like this style below.

This is the Swedish pop star Robyn & she is sporting the cut I want to have. Short like a boy in the back with long bangs in the front. Too cute! I can't wait!
