Playdate!

Laurel, Rowan & Remy

Nas & I had a play date with Rowan & Laurel this afternoon. We enjoyed oohing and ahhing over every coo Rowan made. We especially loved it when we got a smile. This was the first time Remy had been around a baby (since he was a baby). I was nervous about how he would react....but I didn't need to worry. Remy did great and loved Rowan! He even snuck in several kisses on her nose & lips!!

Here's a movie of Remy showing Rowan his toys.

The Real Housewife of Thurston County

Do you watch The Real Housewives of Orange County? How about the New Jersey version? If so...then you know all about my sister, Cynthia. She is THE Real Housewife of Thurston County. Oh yeah.....Today was spent at the Olympia Country Club. She created the drink of choice this summer for the other 'housewives.' It is: vanilla vodka, diet 7 Up & a splash of Cranberry juice. The busboy at the pool told her that she started a trend at the pool (school has been out for how long?).
Don't mess with Cynce.

Hannah Montana Fans

Look for this show on Bravo soon!
If you are a child of the 70's & early 80's, you should be familiar with the McDonald's characters (besides just Ronald). Grimace, Big Mac, Mayor McCheese, Fry Guys, the Professor, Captain Crook & Hamburglar. We ran into Hamburglar at the Vancouver Mall today. He even gave me a free sample of McDonaldland cookies. Yum!

Ahoy Matey!

Omid, Matty & my dad went on a sturgeon/salmon fishing trip a few days ago. This is a tradition the three of them have done for several years. They didn't get any keepers this time, but they caught a 36" & a 39" to prove they actually caught something. Too bad they didn't get to bring any home for our freezer. Omid smoked some more salmon. He caught this fish in April.

He also smoked some tuna. Yum!

I want to visit this place!

A friend of mine just went on a field trip to Conway Family Goat Farm in Camas with her Kindergarten group. They got to play with & hold baby goats. I was so envious! I am waiting to hear when this place is open to visit so I can hold a baby goat too.

**Update: Just heard from Conway Farms. They are not open to the public, but only for private events. If I can get a minimum of 35 people (at $5 a piece), we can schedule a visit to see the goats. If not, then I will just have to wait until August 4th (when I can tag along with a preschool group) or September 19 for their open house. The owners work full time outside of operating the farm & need to justify taking a day off from work to schedule a visit (which is understandable - but if only they knew how much I love baby goats!) - Pooey!

I love Meryl Streep & Philip Seymour Hoffman. Rent this - it's good!

Make This!

If you are like me, you think about what to serve for dinner after 5 p.m. Yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon baking Barky Bits. My back was stiff from standing & my thumb & index finger were sore from the teeny tiny cookie cutters. I needed a quick & easy recipe for dinner. I finally gave dinner a thought around 7:00 p.m.

Dinner for us most nights consists of a rice dish or a pasta dish with some kind of red meat. We are addicted to that routine. Omid wasn't home to cook for us (fishing trip), so Nas & I had to fend for ourselves. We decided on Ravioli with Basalmic Brown Butter. This is quick, easy & very delicious. It took no time at all & we ate it while watching Doubt. Meryl Streep should just win every Academy Award offered every year. She is just brilliant!

Ravioli with Basalmic Brown Butter

1 package frozen ravioli (I used ravioli with Italian sausage inside)
6 Tbs butter
2 Tbs basalmic vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/3 c toasted walnuts (chopped)
1/4 c grated parmesan

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the ravioli & cook 4-5 minutes (or until they all float to the top). Drain & set aside. In the same pot, cook the butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally. When the foam subsides & the butter begins to turn a golden brown, turn off the heat. Let it cook for one minute. Stir in the basalmic vinegar, salt & pepper. Add the ravioli & stir it around in the sauce. Transfer all to a dish & sprinkle with walnuts & parmesan. Serve immediately.

**NOTE! When adding the basalmic vinegar, make sure your face isn't over the pan - your sinuses will take a beating!

What a shocker about Michael Jackson! My goodness! Nas & I were in the Abercrombie store (she can afford it, I can't - seriously...$80 for a TANK TOP!?!) & I heard one of their employees say to another, "did you hear Michael Jackson died today?" I turned to Nas and said, "did you hear that?" I whipped out my phone to check out CNN, but I couldn't get any service in that store. So...while Nas was paying for her purchases, I asked the cashier. He said it was true. We left Abercrombie & I was able to get a signal & check CNN. True. Wow. When we left the mall, every radio station in town was playing MJ songs. I will always remember that I was in Abercrombie when I heard Michael Jackson died. Just like I remember shopping in Albertson's when my dad (who worked there) came out & told us Elvis had died. When we got home, my aunt called my mom sobbing to ask her if she'd heard. This aunt was an Elvis nut. The real shocker was that when I called my sister at five to gab about stuff, she had no idea Michael Jackson had died. I think she thought I was kidding.
Anyways, I feel so sad for Michael Jackson's kids. :(

Birdy Num Num!

Yesterday, Remy found a bird's nest in the arborvitae in our front yard. He was going nuts because he couldn't climb the tree (he tried his best!). I peeled away the branches and found the babies. I checked on the babies again today...because I was concerned they were stuck in all the bird doo doo (look to the right of the nest).

Remy REALLY wanted those birds! Oh well...he is a bird dog.

Remy Rx - WARNING...Graphic Photos!!!

Remember the game of CHASE Omid & Remy love to play? I am happy to report that Remy has been on his best behavior lately & the two are back to just chase..not chase & bite. :) Today...they played chase for a few minutes. After dinner, we took Remy for a run (another game of chase - but without the Vespa this time) and he immediately stopped & held up his right paw. Omid checked it and this is what he found.... Owie!
Owie, owie, owie!

Omid & Matty administering first aid.

Poor Baby!

Omid & Matty giving Remy luvin's! We also gave Remy several drops of Rescue Remedy to calm him. RR works wonders on humans too!

While his front foot was soaking...Matty noticed one of the nails on the back right foot was bleeding too.
:(

Tears!!! I had tears too...but I had important photos to document!
I love you Remy!

I see a future veterinarian. Discounts to friends & family!

Two bandaged paws.

Nas giving Remy lots of LOVE!

This is the video I took where Remy took off after Omid. This is when we noticed Remy limping. Boo hoo.

Nas trying to cheer Remy up. Look how happy Remy is...always wagging that tail - trying to make us feel better! Because he is such a GOOD BOY...I opened a brand new package of Barky Bits and Nas gave him half the bag! You get the other half tomorrow, Remykins!

If you haven't seen Gran Torino yet....do! This is all I can say without giving anything away. It's a great movie! Clint does not disappoint.
