Gingersnaps!

We love these cookies! They are so good, gingery and perfect for a snow day. I was all ready to bake these tasty treats and saw we were out of molasses. So...the kids and I bundled up and walked to QFC. (One cool thing we saw on our walk: a spider web had captured 2 snowflakes. They were beautiful. One looked like the Star of David and the other one was a classis snowflake shape. My small camera is kaput, so I didn't get a photo :(). Unfortunately, living close to QFC means paying their outrageous prices. $6.79 for a jar of Grandmas. Robbery!

Gingersnaps (also known as: molasses crinkles & gingies)

3/4 cup soft shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 molasses
2 cups flour
1/4 t salt
2 tsp soda
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves

Preheat oven to 350*. Mix shortening & brown sugar. Add egg and molasses. Add spices, soda and salt. Add flour. Chill in fridge for an hour or until firm. Shape dough into one inch balls and roll into sugar. Place 2 " apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350* for 12-15 minutes. Enjoy!

*Note: I roll the cookies in raw sugar (turbinado sugar). It makes the cookies so pretty.
